Westbank

Company Profile

Established in 1992 and with over $10 billion of projects completed or under development, Westbank is active across Canada in a diversity of product types from luxury condominiums, rental apartment office, retail, hotel, non-market housing and industrial. The main focus is on large mixed use projects involving highly complex entitlement processes.

The company is best known for being the leading luxury residential developer in Canada, along with being the owner/developer of the finest hotels in Canada, but the origins of the company are in the retail sector.

The company started out developing neighbourhood shopping centers in partnerships with a publicly listed company called Abbey Woods, which was constructed by Robert Kuok of the Shangri-la Hotel and Kerry Properties. After a number of successful projects, Westbank with the help of HSBC purchased Abbey Woods and took the company private.

The relationship with the Kuok family continues to this day with the two Shangri-la Hotels, Vancouver and Toronto under construction, which were developed with Ben Yeung at the Peterson Investment Group.

With a number of large projects in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto under way or currently going through the entitlement process, the company is fulfilling its vision of combining architectural excellence with a careful consideration for the impact on the environment.
